In Conversation

In this issue of our “In Conversation with” we talked to Mr. Jeff Hove, acting Vice President and Executive Director at the Fuels Institute. In recent years we have seen some initiatives to consider policies to ban the sale of vehicles equipped with internal combustion engines (ICE), predominantly emerging in Europe, but also spreading out in parts of Asia.

In this issue of our “In Conversation with” we talked to Dr Tilak Doshi, an energy sector consultant based in Singapore. Dr Doshi shared his views and observations about the global “2050 decarbonisation” plan and move towards Electric Vehicles (EVs) with us. We would like to thank Dr Doshi for his efforts to comprehensively answer our questions which provide some highly valuable and very interesting insights into this matter, highlighting a range of topics often overlooked in the political discussion between the various stakeholders in the race to save the world from impending climate catastrophe.

The Asian Clean Fuel Association (ACFA) co-hosted a roundtable workshop on “Phasing out Leaded Gasoline in Iraq and Promoting Vehicle Fuel Efficiency”, together with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) in Singapore on 29- and 30-August 2016.

For our 2nd “In Conversation with:” issue this year, we are delighted to share with our readers some interesting thoughts and views from Mr. Rob de Jong who is the Head of Transportation Unit at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

For our first edition of “In Conversation with” in 2015 we start with Dr. Hossam Allam, Regional Programme Manager at CEDARE who we would like to thank for sharing his expertise gained over the last 20 years in CEDARE and his thoughts and views about the Sustainable Growth Programme (SGP) for his Mediterranean partner countries.

This issue of “In Conversation with” features Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore’s Minister for the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR), who shared with us Singapore’s plan to move to Euro VI standards. We would like to thank him for sharing his thoughts and views on the subject.

In this second issue of “In Conversation with” we interviewed Bjarne Pedersen, Executive Director of Clean Air Asia, who shared his views on the future role and challenges of Clean Air Asia.

In our first edition of "In Conversation" for 2014, we start with Clarence Woo, Executive Director of ACFA, whom we would like to thank for sharing with us his experiences over the past 11 years in ACFA as well as his thoughts and views for the future.

The non-profit Coordinating Research Council (CRC) directs engineering and environmental studies on the interaction between vehicles and petroleum products. CRC members include OEMs Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Toyota and Volkswagen. The fuels community is represented by the American Petroleum Institute.

The Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities (CAI-Asia) started as a project of Manila-based Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 2001 and grew into a standalone non-governmental organization (NGO).

Fuel quality in the Middle East varies radically from one country to the next, and obstacles to cleaner fuels range from a lack of awareness, urgency and political will to a lack of modern refineries and coordination.

Before advanced automotive technologies and tougher anti-pollution regulations can have an impact in emerging countries, fuel quality must be addressed, and oil companies must share the responsibility, according to the world's leading automobile manufacturers.

He shared with ACFA thoughts on his role as President in the past two years, the triumphs and challenges the Association faced in the past decade, his vision for the Association as well as his leadership style.
