India’s expansion of ethanol blending has brought increased attention to fuel quality, vehicle compatibility and supply-chain requirements.

To examine these issues, ACFA supported research by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) on the role that oxygenated fuels could play alongside India’s biofuel programme.

The study examined technical and implementation considerations associated with different oxygenated gasoline approaches.

ACFA has also participated in industry discussions, including through platforms such as India Energy Week, sharing technical perspectives on gasoline formulation and the practical considerations associated with higher ethanol blending.

These discussions have considered fuel quality, vehicle compatibility and supply-chain challenges as India implements its fuel policy.

Why it matters

Setting a blending target is only one part of implementation.

Fuel availability, vehicle compatibility and infrastructure requirements can influence how effectively fuel policies are implemented.
